Let it be said of us ....

The Blessing
John Waller

Let it be said of us
While we walked among the living
Let it be said of us
By the ones we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That we lived to be a blessing for life

Let it be said of us
That we gave to reach the dying
Let it be said of us
By the fruit we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That our legacy is blessing for life

This day
You set life, you set death right before us,
This day
Every blessing and curse is a choice now
And we will choose to be a blessing for life

Let it be said of us
That our hearts belonged to Jesus Let it be said of us
That we spoke the words of life
Let it be said of us
That our heritage is blessing for life

Tweet, Quack, Cluck & Cock-a-Doodle-Doo!

SATURDAY:
Today was a perfectly beautiful, calm ,warm Summer day.
After heeding a friends advice about letting our 2 ducks free from the chicken house yesterday, I again listened to his words of wisdom today about letting the chickens out. We have had these 13 chickens cooped up in an old garden shed ... with good intentions of getting an outdoor run built, but no time. So today, I opened the door and chased them all out.
I also dug a hole big enough to set a water tank down into the ground for the ducks to get in and out of. They were happy. So was the dog.
Later in the afternoon Kaila and I lounged in the hammock under our covered porch and watched our baby barn swallows in their nest, mouths wide open waiting for dinner.

I would like to "clean up" Kaila's face in this picture, does anyone know if there's a way to do that in Elements?

Totally Taboo Tuesday!

Have you ever wondered if a stinky burp still stinks if you let it out your nose instead of your mouth?

Ever farted only to find out it wasn't a fart?

Ever walked into your bathroom to discover this... ?

NO?!? You mean it's just ME???

LOL!

Well regardless of whether or not these or other "taboo" things come up for the rest of you, I thought it would be fun to try this on my blog. Add your comments here to share your Totally Taboo Tuesday thoughts/questions/incidents!

An afternoon at Lake Mac

Not ME Monday!

This is not the lamest Not Me Monday post ever... Because I did not lie awake into the wee hours of the morning trying to figure out what I could post.... and I definitely did not forget the one thing I did think up! So, here I am to say ... NOT ME!!! :)

Now it's your turn, post your :Not Me's: under the comments section of this post & share in the fun!

Also, hop on over to MckMama's blog and check out all the Not-Me-ing over there ... :)

EDITED TO ADD : I Remembered the one thing!!! :)

Yesterday while at the lake .... I totally did not decide to skip the swim diaper for my 2 year old, thinking, something along the lines of - It's the lake, how bad could it be?? I did not then, 10 minutes later, squeeze her bottom and feel my fingers squish into something other than her flesh! And I absolutely did not, and would NEVER even think about burying the poo in the sand and swishing her swimsuit around in the lake! And to boot- I did not allow my family to continue swimming in the same spot, thinking all the while- I hope we don't all get Cryptosporidium! And I did not not think that because I stayed up watching "Monsters Inside Me" on Animal Planet the other day!

Creamy Fried Confetti Corn

As promised- the recipe for the Creamy Fried Confetti Corn that I made yesterday:

Creamy Fried Confetti Corn

  • 8 bacon slices, chopped
  • 4 cups fresh sweet corn kernels (about 8 ears)
  • 1 medium-size white onion, chopped
  • 1 chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, cubed
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
Cook chopped bacon in a large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, and drain on paper towels, reserving drippings in skillet. Set bacon aside.
Sauté corn, onion, and bell peppers in hot drippings in skillet over medium-high heat 6 minutes or until tender. Add cream cheese and half-and-half, stirring until cream cheese melts. Stir in sugar, salt, and pepper. Top with bacon.

*Over the years as I have made this dish I've made a few alterations to the recipe.
1. I prepare about twice as much bacon as the recipe calls for.
2. I only saute' the onions and peppers (not the corn) in the bacon drippings. When they are tender I add the cream cheese and half-and-half. When the cream cheese has melted I stir the corn in. Then I stir about half of the bacon in.
3. I then transfer the entire mixture to a 9x13 baking dish & bake at 375 for 30-45 minutes.
5. The last 5 minutes of baking time I take it out and top it with the rest of the bacon.

**When I did this yesterday I didn't have time to stick it in the oven & also had to transport it to a party, so I put it in a crockpot (I have one that the lid seals/locks down) and added the bacon when we got to the party.

Click, click, click - I was so camera-happy today!

Being inspired by this post, I decided I really should take pictures of some of my GREAT finds from last Saturday's city-wide garage sales in Grant-

I found these great basket planters for $10 a piece... I wouldn't call these a *true* garage sale item as they were being sold retail by someone who was trying to reduce inventory.... still, I think I got a good deal on them.

and this set of 8 Pepsi-Cola glasses with a matching pitcher- I've always seen the Coca-Cola glasses, but I don't like Coke- and have always wanted a set that says Pepsi... who knew I'd find it at a garage sale!?!! :) I'm so pumped about this!
I also got an ice cream maker for $5, but I'll spare you the photo as it just isn't as aesthetic as my other treasures!

A Queen-sized quilt for $5... had to talk them down from $10 b/c they were trying to sell 2 icky throw pillows with it that I had absolutely no use for... :)
This CUTE mirror for Kristen's room-

a hat that Kristen felt was necessary...

And this adorable bubble outfit for Kaila ...

And the hat that Kristen insisted on.... was worth it's weight in gold today for pictures!

This is my new kitty- Cleopatra-

And my sweet girls-

And now it's another new day & I think maybe I'll paint that guest room........ :)
